IMNG publications are printed offset in a tabloid news format.  Black-and-white, two-, three-, four-, and five-color advertisements are accepted.

  • Full-Page Bleeds:
    • Bleed size:  11” x 14-5/8”
    • Trim: 10-7/8” x 14-3/8”
    • Keep live matter 1/2” from all trim edges

Run-of-Book Reproduction Requirements

  1. Black-and-white or Color Advertisements
    • Digital materials are required.  MAC and PC formats accepted.
    • PDF or PDFX1/A files accepted.
    • Media accepted:  Zip 100 MB or 250 MB, CD-ROM.
    • Ads will not be accepted via FTP.  Call Judi Sheffer at 240-221-2412 for FTP instructions.
    • Digital files will not be altered.  All files must be 100%.
    • CT files must be 300 DPI (Res. 12) and LW files must be 2032 (Res. 80).
    • Trapping must be included in file.
    • Images/scans, fonts, logos, artwork must be included.
    • All images must be CMYK (RGB images cannot be processed).
    • Third-party fonts are not accepted.

  2. Color Proofs
    • Provide two high-end digital proofs with color bars.
    • Color laser proofs are not accepted as color guidance.
    • Proofs must be provided at 100% size.

Insert Requirements

  • Publisher accepts both full king-size and “A-size” (8” x 11” minimum size) inserts. 
  • Pre-clearance of all inserts by submission of sample paper stock or paper dummy when insert is not standard. 
  • Inserts not meeting mechanical specifications are subject to a surcharge.

Insert Specifications

  • Maximum paper weight—80 lb. text coated or matte for two-page (single leaf) and four-page inserts (double leaf).  For larger inserts, please contact Production Department.
  • Multiple leaf inserts need to be furnished folded.
  • 8” x 11” inserts to be furnished trimmed.

  • Full king-size:  10-7/8” x 14-3/8”
  • Minimum insert size:  8” x 11”

DISPOSITION OF MATERIAL
Files are held one year and then destroyed, unless instructed otherwise in writing.  Unused inserts will be destroyed 9 months from delivery date.  Please call Judi Sheffer at 240-221-2412 for extension.

Web Ad Specifications for IMNG Independent (Non-Society) Title Web Sites

Positions and Dimensions
Five positions are offered, with a rotation of up to three ads in each. Banner types 4 and 5 can support rich media.

  • Banner 1: Tile ad: 120x60 pixels
    Left-hand navigation bar (appears on all of the newspaper’s Web pages)

  • Banner 2: Tile ad: 125x125 pixels
    Left-hand navigation bar (appears on all of the newspaper’s Web pages)

  • Banner 3: Horizontal banner: 335x80 pixels
    Bottom of Home Page and Table of Contents only (does not appear on any additional pages)

  • Banner 4:  Leaderboard: 728x90 pixels(Rich media position)
    Horizontal ad above the newspaper name plate on Home Page, TOC page, search results and non-article pages

  • Banner 5: Wide skyscraper: 160x600 pixels(Rich media position)
    Vertical ad that runs in right-hand column on Home Page, TOC page, search results  and non-article pages

    • Acceptable file format: GIF or JPEG
    • File Size: 15K maximum
    • 8K to 10K, preferred
    • Color palette: 216 (for GIF files)
    • Rotation: Accepted
    • Animation: Maximum 3 loops of animation, up to 7 seconds of duration
    • Impression target, click-through URL and estimated start/end dates must be provided for each ad before posting
  • Banners 4 and 5  (Rich media positions)
    • Required resolution: 72 dpi
    • Acceptable file format: GIF,JPEG, rich media (e.g., Flash)
    • File Size: 30K Maximum
    • Smaller files will load more quickly for end user
    • No additional charges for extra handling by DART team
    • Large files may require compression to send via e-mail
    • Color palette: 216 (for GIF files)
    • Creatives with a white background must have a border to distinguish the ad in an effective and efficient way.
    • Rotation: Accepted
    • Animation: Maximum 3 loops of animation, up to 7 seconds of duration
    • Impression target, click-through URL and estimated start/end dates must be provided for each ad before posting

Rich media ads

  • The leaderboard and wide skyscraper ads can support rich media (e.g., Flash).
  • Acceptable file types for rich media are .fla and .swf .
  • All Flash files must be submitted with a backup .gif or .jpg file AND the target URL.
  • Submitting the back up file (gif or jpg) ensures that an ad will be delivered if the user’s computer does not support Flash.
